The new interface from Avast is nicely laid out, with clear distinctions between its various elements as well as simple blue icons (with orange accents from the logo of the company) to highlight the suite’s capabilities. The homepage allows you to run a scan, and then turn on the VPN, while shortcuts to several less-than-utilized tools for system optimization are also available. However the fact that the majority of Avast’s other features are hidden within the “Explore” tab is a little frustrating.

Installation is simple, and you are not forced to use the free version. However, a thorough scan will reveal “advanced issues” that require premium security to solve. This is a little sneaky. Particularly when you click on the Resolve option and are directed to a website which asks you to sign to sign up for Avast Premium security. Avast also sells user information, which was uncovered in a 2020 article from Which? magazine.
